Parents have the responsibility to ensure that their children have adequate footwear and clothing to take full advantage of the education provided at school. The Council will help parents to meet this responsibility by providing a grant to those who are eligible to purchase appropriate school clothing and footwear for their child(ren).
The criteria for both School Clothing Grants and Free School Meals previously differed and following alignment when we implemented our food vouchers during the Covid-19 pandemic, are now both set at the same threshold of £16,105.
Clothing grants will therefore normally be paid to parents/carers whose children attend a school managed by the Council and who get one of the following benefits:
- Parents/carers who are in receipt of Working Tax Credit and/or Child Tax Credit will qualify for a clothing grant for their child(ren) only if the award letter from the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) states that their annual income is below £16,105.The tax credit award notice must be submitted as proof of entitlement.
- Parents/carers who are in receipt of Child Tax Credit only, but who do not receive Working Tax Credit will qualify for free school meals for their child(ren) only if the award letter from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) states that their annual income is below £16,105.
- Parents/carers who are in receipt of both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income below £7,330 will qualify for free school meals for their child(ren). The tax credit award notice must be submitted as proof of entitlement.
- Universal Credit where the monthly earned income does not exceed £610.
