UK General Election

All voters MUST show photo ID at the polling place when voting in UK General Elections.

Please check to see if you have any of the types of photo ID outlined below.

International Travel

  • Passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country (including an Irish Passport Card) 

Driving and Parking

  • Driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or an EEA state
  • A blue badge

Local Travel

  • Scottish National Entitlement Card issued for the purpose of concessionary travel (including a 60+, disabled or under 22s bus pass)
  • Older Person’s Bus Pass funded by the UK Government
    Disabled Person’s Bus Pass funded by the UK Government
  • 60+ London Oyster Photocard funded by Transport for London
  • Freedom Pass
  • 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card
  • Disabled Person’s Welsh Concessionary Travel Card
  • Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person’s SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • War Disablement SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland
  • Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland

Proof of Age

  • Identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card), for example a Young Scot card

Other government issued documents

If you do not have suitable photo ID you can apply to the Electoral Registration Office for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector’s Document. 

This can be done NOW – you do not need to wait until a date for the Election is announced.

The sooner you do this, the sooner your application can be processed and any issues resolved to ensure your vote counts in the election.

Please note:

  • The photo must look like you even if the ID has expired
  • Voters in Scotland will not need to show ID at Scottish Parliamentary or local elections (MSPs and Councillors)
  • Failure to provide suitable photo ID at the Polling Place will result in you being unable to vote, so please make sure you’re prepared in time.
