Covid-19 Food Vouchers

Please Note:  Free School Meal and Clothing Grant applications for the 2020/21 school session, beginning in August 2020, have not yet launched.  We will announce when the application process is available through social media and on the website in the next few weeks.

Food Vouchers

To support our communities, during this challenging time when our schools are closed as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19), arrangements have been made to provide food vouchers for those children in East Dunbartonshire schools who receive a School Clothing Grant.

The vouchers, are in the form of Farmfood voucher cards, and are initially loaded with £20 from Monday 6 April.  A card will be issued for each child that is eligible, and a further top up of £20 will be applied to each card, each week, on a Monday, from Monday 13 April and for the duration of time our schools remain closed as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Therefore, if you receive your Food Voucher card week beginning 13 April it will have £40 applied and if you receive your card week beginning 20 April it will have £60 applied. Thereafter, the weekly top of £20 will be applied on a Monday.

Eligibility

School Clothing Grants

All those in receipt of a School Clothing Grant are eligible, and vouchers were issued from Monday 6 April.

Free School Meals and Free Early Years Meals

There are also a small number of parents/carers who are not in receipt of a School Clothing Grant but who do receive Free School Meals (excluding the universal provision for P1-P3). These parents/carers are also eligible for a Food Voucher, and a voucher is being issued week beginning Monday 13 April, which will be backdated to Monday 6 April

There are also a small number of parents/carers who are in receipt of Free Early Years Meals (excluding the universal provision in our pilot 1140 hrs Early Years Centres).  These parents/carers are also eligible for a Food Voucher and vouchers were issued week beginning 6 April.

Application Process - Schools

Our application process for a School Clothing Grant and/or Free School Meals normally requires parents/cares to attend one of our Community Hubs and this is not possible as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19).  We have therefore created an online application process.

We are aware that our criteria for a School Clothing Grant were slightly different to the criteria for a Free School Meal.  We are therefore aligning these criteria to be the same.

To confirm, the criteria for both School Clothing Grants and Free School Meals are now both set at the same threshold of £16,105.

The updated criteria are therefore as follows:

  • Parents/carers who are in receipt of Working Tax Credit and/or Child Tax Credit will qualify for a clothing grant for their child(ren) only if the award letter from the HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) states that their annual income is below £16,105.The tax credit award notice must be submitted as proof of entitlement.
  • Parents/carers who are in receipt of Child Tax Credit only, but who do not receive Working Tax Credit will qualify for free school meals for their child(ren) only if the award letter from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) states that their annual income is below £16,105.
  • Parents/carers who are in receipt of both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit with an income below £6,900 will qualify for free school meals for their child(ren). The tax credit award notice must be submitted as proof of entitlement.
  • Universal Credit where the monthly earned income does not exceed £610.

You should complete the application form here:

Please Note:  Free School Meal and Clothing Grant applications for the 2020/21 school session, beginning in August 2020, have not yet launched.  Do not complete this form here for 2020/21 entitlement.  We will announce when the application process is available through social media and on the website in the next few weeks.

Please ensure that you include a copy of the evidence to confirm your eligibility.  You will be prompted to do this on the form.

Once your application has been verified and while our schools remain closed, you will receive a Food Voucher.

You should make an application if:

  • If you are eligible for either a School Clothing Grant or Free School Meals (excluding the P1-P3 universal provision) but have not yet applied.

  • If your circumstances have changed and you are now eligible for either a School Clothing Grant and/or Free School Meals, you should apply for the benefits you are now entitled to and once you are in receipt of these, you can make an application for a Food Voucher

For those parents/carers who we have information on our system that they receive Free School Meal entitlement and have already provided the proof of entitlement, a voucher will be issued directly to the home address.

If you are currently in receipt of a Free School Meal (excluding the P1-P3 provision) or a School Clothing Grant but you have not yet been issued with a Food Voucher, please ring 0300 1234510 and provide your name and contact number and the name of your child/children, the school/s they attend and the year they are in and if possible, the date you received your award.  We will investigate and get back to you.

Application Process – Early Years

Our application process for Early Years Free Meals required parents/cares to attend one of our Community Hubs, with the completed form (available in the Early Years section of the website) and with the evidence of their eligibility.  This is not possible as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19) and we have therefore created an online application process.

The eligibility criteria for this are broader than for School Clothing Grants/Free School Meals and so it is a separate application form.  Early Years Free Meal entitlement excludes the universal provision being made in some of our Early Years Centres through the 1140 hours pilot.

You can claim Early Years Free Meals for nursery aged children with the following criteria:

  • Income Support (IS)
  • Income-based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (CTC), but not Working Tax Credit, and your income is less than £16,105
  • Both maximum Child Tax Credit and maximum Working Tax Credit and your income is under £6,900
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Universal Credit where the monthly earned income does not exceed £610
  • Incapacity or Severe Disablement Allowance
  • State Pension Credit
  • Those aged two or over who are (or have been at any point since turning two) either looked after by a Local Authority, the subject of a Kinship Care Order or a child with a Parent or Appointed Guardian.

You should complete the Early Years Free Meal application form here:

Once your application has been verified and while our Early Years Centres remain closed, you will receive a Food Voucher.

You should make an application if:

  • If you are eligible for Early Years Free Meals (excluding the universal provision in our pilot 1140 hrs centres) but have not yet applied.

  • If your circumstances have changed and you are now eligible for Early Years Free Meals (excluding the universal provision in our pilot 1140 hrs centres), you should apply for the benefits you are now entitled to and once you are in receipt of these, you can make an application to be eligible for a Food Voucher.

For those parents/carers who we have information on our system that they receive Free Early Years Meal entitlement and have already provided the proof of entitlement, a voucher should have already been issued.

If you are currently in receipt of Early Years Free Meals (excluding the universal provision in our pilot 1140 hrs centres) but you have not yet been issued with a Food Voucher, please ring 0300 1234510 and provide your name and contact number and the name of your child/children, the Early Years Centre they attend and if possible, the date you received your award.  We will investigate and get back to you.
