The Council wants to hear your thoughts on updates to guidance related to the East Dunbartonshire Local Development Plan (LDP).

The LDP sets out policies and a framework to guide the determination of all planning applications received by the Council. Current planning regulations encourage LDPs to be as succinct as possible and further information or detailed matters can be set out in additional guidance.

The Council currently has 20 pieces of guidance to assist in the determination of planning applications covering a variety of matters such as technical detail providing further information on the subject policies of the plan, town centre strategies and masterplans for specific areas.

The Draft Guidance Consultation - which will run between Friday 19 November 2021 and Friday 14 January 2022 - will relate to a number of pieces of guidance that are currently in place and require to be amended to ensure that they reflect the policies within the emerging Local Development Plan 2 and other known changes or best practice since the guidance was adopted.

The draft guidance in the consultation will cover:

  • Advertisement Consent
  • Brownfield Land
  • Design and Placemaking
  • Developer Contributions
  • Frontiers of the Roman Empire (FRE) (Antonine Wall) World Heritage Site
  • Sustainable Transport

A summary document has been prepared which provides further information on the general purpose of guidance, sets out the relationship between each of the six documents with the LDP and details what key changes are proposed.

The documents associated with the consultation will be available to view on the Council’s website at www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/planning-guidance-consultation from 19 November. Alternatively, paper copies will be available to view at all East Dunbartonshire libraries.

Joint Council leader Andrew Polson, said, "Residents will able to comment on the additional information provided in each draft guidance which will replace the existing versions and help guide the determination of future planning applications received by the Council.

"Comments are specifically being sought on the proposed changes, however feedback on all detailed matters will be considered."

Joint Council leader Vaughan Moody, added, "We would encourage everyone to get involved and make their views known on the draft guidance.

"An online session has been arranged for residents to find out more and to ask any questions."

Anyone interested in attending the online meeting on Wednesday 8 December at 4pm should sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/EDCplanning. Please note, the session will be hosted using Microsoft Teams software and you can join a Teams meeting free from any device, whether or not you have a Teams account.
