The Council is required by law to regularly review fares and charges. Initial consultation took place with taxi operators, booking offices and trade associations in August/September 2024.

The consultation response from a trade association acknowledged the challenges being faced by communities, but suggested revised charges to take account of rising pressures – including vehicle, licence, insurance and inspection costs.

The Council is proposing to allow a 3% rise in maximum fares (rounded to the nearest five pence), except for the extra charge for hires to/from the drop-off/pick-up zone at Glasgow Airport, which will increase to £5.50.

The Council will consider all representations received by 4 April 2025, before reaching a final decision.

The current scales have been in place since December 2022. The review is required in terms of section 17 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

Following consultation with the taxi trade, a new framework of fares and charges has been proposed. Please find out more by visiting the Taxi Fares Review consultation webpage – by 4 April 2025

In addition, further engagement will take place with the taxi trade, with a view to undertaking a wholesale review of scales – including distances and additional charges – with a report to follow in due course.
