Children and young people from every Primary and Secondary Schools in East Dunbartonshire gathered in Kirkintilloch High School recently at an event to discuss their work on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

Representatives from the Council’s Pupil Forum – My Voice, My Choice – took part in their second annual event to share the knowledge and experience they have gained on their schools’ journeys to ensure that children’s rights are enshrined in school life.

Over the last year the children and young people have participated in sessions delivered by global citizenship organisation WOSEDC, Poverty Action Group, the Council’s Community Planning team and My Rights My Say Advocacy Service.

They share this information with fellow pupils and staff to start conversations and encourage dialogue around children’s rights to ensure that all voices are heard and everyone feels valued and respected.

This event, organised by the Council’s Quality Improvement Team, was an opportunity for pupils to showcase the work they’ve been doing and the progress they have made.
The Council’s Chief Education Office, Greg Bremner

"It gave them a platform to share ideas and learn from each other. I am encouraged by what I saw and was delighted to see work around the UNCRC become embedded in our school communities.”

Each participant received a Dynamic Youth Award in recognition of their hard work across the year, supported by the Council’s Youth Work Team.
