It might feel like 2024 has gone by in a flash but 2025 looks like developing into a great year with two fantastic exhibitions opening in East Dunbartonshire.

The focus will be on fantastic images when the Auld Kirk Museum in Kirkintilloch opens the shutters on its latest show.

The 'Scottish Photographic Circle Exhibition' is once again being hosted at the museum with everyone welcome to attend the official opening taking place on Saturday 11 January 2025 at 2.30pm.

It will include a range of stunning images from some of the country's finest photographers – with subjects ranging from buildings and landscapes to nature, wildlife and people.

The Scottish Photographic Circle was founded in 1907 at a meeting of enthusiastic artists, who agreed that a society would be formed to promote pictorial photography in Scotland.

Since then, the group has gone from strength to strength and its exhibitions at the Auld Kirk are always popular.

The next exhibition at the Lillie Art Gallery – which opens on Wednesday 15 January - invites you to wander round a private collection of Scottish art that has taken over four decades to amass.

Graeme Cathcart is a local art collector, who has been collecting art for over 45 years. His vast and varied collection has been brought together in the Milngavie gallery for all to see.

From Bet Low to William Crosbie, the landscape and the abstract, this amazing collection of Scottish art is well worth a visit.

Graeme has created his collection through buying pieces directly from the artists, from exhibitions and occasionally from auction.

It's wonderful to be able to offer people such a high quality cultural start to 2025, with two exhibitions showcasing a range of superb talents.
Councillor Jim Gibbons, Chair of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust

“Most people couldn’t picture what their life would be like without a camera, so we're delighted to welcome the Scottish Photographic Circle back to the museum.

“We have been fortunate enough to host its exhibitions for a number of years and I'm sure 2025 will be another success.

“It’s also an honour to host the private collection of Graeme Cathcart at the Lillie.

“I’d encourage people to come along and see the exhibition for themselves as it will give them the opportunity to view some wonderful pieces of art they’d ordinarily not get to see.”

The 'Scottish Photographic Circle Exhibition' is on between Saturday 11 January and Thursday 27 February 2025 at the Auld Kirk Museum, Cowgate, Kirkintilloch, G66 1HN. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm. Admission is free.
