A fabulous watercolour painting by a talented P7 pupil has been chosen to feature on East Dunbartonshire Council’s Christmas card for 2024.

Provost Gillian Renwick ran a competition for school pupils across the area to submit their designs and Bonnie from Westerton Primary in Bearsden was the overall winner.

Her enchanting depiction of a girl meeting a deer in a serene and magical looking woodland blew the judges away.

Bonnie’s artwork has been animated by the Council’s graphic design team and will be used as the Council's official Christmas e-card going to hundreds of businesses and partners.

Bonnie met Provost Renwick and Depute Provost Colette McDiarmid at her school this week to receive her prize of an art set and a pack of cards featuring her creation.

Both runners-up this year came from the same school - St. Helen’s in Bishopbriggs. Primary 1 pupil Emily drew a charming nativity scene while the entry from Sophia in Primary 4 showed all the goodies left out for Santa and Rudolph.

I am thrilled that so many schools took part in this year’s competition as judging the children’s drawings is one of my favourite things to do.

"Once again we had a very difficult job on our hands with so many wonderful entries.

“Bonnie’s painting is exceptional and shows real talent. She has created a beautiful scene with her use of colour and shading and we all agreed that it would make a stunning card. Congratulations to Bonnie and well done too to Emily and Sophia whose designs are also eye-catching and worthy runners-up.”

Bonnie added, “I love to draw and paint and couldn’t wait to enter the Provost’s Christmas competition. I am really happy that I’ve won and can’t wait to see my idea printed on a card and animated as a Christmas card. It’s very exciting.”
