It’s Results Day 2024 (Tuesday 6 August) and for hundreds of pupils across East Dunbartonshire, it’s time to learn how they have performed in their National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher exams.
Early analysis indicates that overall, results in East Dunbartonshire remain strong for pupils across our eight secondary schools1. A significant number of young people have passed, achieving A, B and C grades. For National 5 it was 84.7%, for Highers it was 81.6% and for Advanced Higher the figure was 77.8%
Huge congratulations to everyone who worked hard to achieve these great results. It takes a great deal of commitment and effort so I’d like to pay tribute to the young people themselves, the families who have supported them and the school staff who are focussed on helping every single pupil achieve their full potential.

Results compared to last session indicate that there is an increase for S6 Highers (Level 6) and Advanced Highers (Level 7) by approximately 3%, with a slight drop in S5 Highers (Level 6) by approximately 3%.
Councillor Williamson continued, “Across our schools we are offering an increasing number of qualifications to meet the needs of young people, including National Progression Awards and Foundation Apprenticeships. These qualifications provide flexible pathways to support pupils to develop skills relevant to careers and the world of work. Results from these will not be known until later in the year and together with today’s results will give us a full picture of attainment across the board.”

Pupils concerned about their grades can submit an appeal which involves a marking review by the SQA2. Across Scotland, further in-depth analysis of the results data will be undertaken following the release of Insight data which will take account of the outcome of appeals at school level.
Councillor Williamson outlined the support available to anyone who needs it. She said, "If your results are not what you were expecting or what you were hoping for, please speak to your teachers, they can help. There is a lot of support available, and it is important to ask as there are flexible routes to your chosen career."
