A highlight of East Dunbartonshire's cultural calendar takes place this month in the heart of Kirkintilloch.

The 52nd Annual Art Exhibition is being held at the Auld Kirk Museum from Saturday 17 August until 19 September 2024.

This year's show - which is supported by the Auld Kirk and East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust - will feature around 100 works from artists from Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs, Lenzie and Campsie.

The official opening and prize-giving ceremony takes place at the Kirkintilloch museum on Saturday 17 August from 2.30pm and all are welcome.

Many congratulations to all those who contributed to the latest collection. As well as being an inspirational celebration, the exhibition is also a great opportunity to purchase an original and unique piece of art. I’d encourage everyone to drop in and take a look at the wealth of artistic talent on display
Councillor Jim Gibbons, Chair of EDLC Trust

The event was founded by artist Dick Stevenson in 1970 to showcase local amateur and professional artists and was initially held in his small gallery in Townhead.

That inspired then-Provost Bill Leslie to suggest a competitive exhibition in Kirkintilloch Town Hall in 1971. It has grown from there to a popular annual celebration at the Auld Kirk Museum.

Honours will include the Anne Stevenson Memorial Prize for the best watercolour, named after Mr Stevenson’s late first wife. The winner will receive a silver salver and a commissioned Ceramic piece by Merideth Crone, purchased by the family.

There are three prizes:

  • The Anne Stevenson Memorial Prize

  • The Jack Lucas Memorial Quaich

  • The Civic Purchase Prize.

The 52nd Annual Art Exhibition takes place from Saturday 17 August until 19 September 2024 at the Auld Kirk Museum, Cowgate, Kirkintilloch, G66 1HN. Open Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-1pm and 2-5pm. Closed Sunday and Monday. Admission free.
