Mental health is just as important as physical health. Mental illness can affect anyone at any time of their life.
There are many ways in which people with mental health issues can receive support and advice in East Dunbartonshire. Services are mainly provided through the Community Mental Health Team, to which people must be referred, and the Primary Care Mental Health Team, to which people can self-refer only following consultation and advice from GP.
Primary Care Mental Health Team
The Primary Care Mental Health Team helps with mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, depression or stress.
It provides help for people experiencing mild to moderate mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and stress. Support includes self-help advice, self-management materials, and individual therapy.
The team will initially carry out a telephone assessment. during which they may advise you of services that can help and we will explain more about the options available within the service.
Community Mental Health Team
The Community Mental Health Team provides access to services and can offer treatment options for people with severe and enduring mental health problems.
The team is based within the Kirkintilloch Health and Carte Centre and comprises of Medical, Psychology, Nursing and Occupational Therapy staff.
Social Work Mental Health Team
The Social Work Mental Health team provide a range of recovery focussed social work services. Social Workers will complete an assessment of needs and may arrange for the provision of services to support recovery. The Social Work team works closely with partners in health and in the third and voluntary sector. The Social Work Mental Health team also provides statutory Mental Health Officer services as required by the Mental Health (Care & Treatment) (Scotland) and Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Acts.
East Dunbartonshire Older Peoples’ Mental Health Services
East Dunbartonshire Older Peoples’ Mental Health Services provides medical and psychological approaches to encourage positive mental health. The team works closely with partners to help people to maximise their potential and live well.
Services are available to adults over the age of 65 who are experiencing severe and enduring mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, memory loss and dementia.
The service is accessed through referral from GPs or other specialists.
