Legal aid allows people who would not otherwise be able to afford it to get help for their legal problems.
Set up in 1987 the Scottish Legal Aid Board is a non-departmental public body responsible to the Scottish Government.
Situated in Edinburgh, Board members are appointed by the Scottish Government. The Board consists of solicitors and advocates and also people from the wider community to provide a balanced range of knowledge and experience.
