Do you walk, cycle, run or use public transport to get to work, keep fit or get around? You can download a free app which could see you rack up rewards while you’re on the go.

The Council has teamed up with BetterPoints to encourage ‘local motion’ – helping to promote better health and wellbeing, active travel and efforts to tackle climate change.

The BetterPoints app, which is already used by a number of local authorities across the UK, allows participants to earn points that can be spent at participating local businesses, redeemed for vouchers at major retailers and hospitality venues or donated to charity.

If you live in East Dunbartonshire you can download the app to a smartphone or tablet from your app store and register with a local postcode to join the BetterPoints East Dunbartonshire challenge. Journeys are then detected through the app – so once a user starts moving, activity is automatically recorded.

If you live outside the area, you can join the local challenge using the referral code EDCOOA. You will be prompted to enter this whilst you're registering on the app.

Whenever you walk, wheel, run, cycle and ride on public transport in East Dunbartonshire, you can earn BetterPoints. You can get bonus points if you travel sustainably into Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch and Milngavie town centres.

Everyone who joins BetterPoints East Dunbartonshire and completes the Get Started Survey before Sunday 9 June will be entered into a draw for a £20 East Dunbartonshire Gift Card.

If you know a business or service provider who you would like to see involved, they can sign up – at no cost – via the East Dunbartonshire BetterPoints website

BetterPoints East Dunbartonshire is a project delivered by the Council through support from Paths for All’s Smarter Choices, Smarter Places fund.
