Active travel means making journeys by physically-active means - such as walking, cycling or wheeling (travelling by wheelchair). There are many benefits to keeping active in this way - summarised in the Information Booklet.

To help more people benefit from keeping active as part of their everyday journeys and exercise, the Council is starting work to produce a new Active Travel Strategy for East Dunbartonshire. This is a committed action within the Local Transport Strategy 2020-2025.

The first stage in this process is a discussion with local communities and stakeholders. During this period we want to hear what you like about the current network and ideas you have that will enable us to keep active while on the move.

Use the links and information below to help you join the Active Travel Discussion!

The consultation will run from 11 May 2021 until 28 September 2021.

Next steps and delivering a Draft Active Travel Strategy

All ideas gathered throughout this process will be looked at to see how well they fit within our Active Travel Option Assessment Process. This process includes gauging how deliverable/feasible the option would be and assessing it against the priorities for active travel in delivering the objectives of the Local Transport Strategy 2020-2025. More details of the Active Travel Option Assessment Process are available within the Documents section at the bottom of this page.

Options gathered through the discussion period will add to those already raised through previous Council consultations on transport. The Council is also carrying out an assessment of all existing routes and paths in a bid to gather all available evidence of what could be included within the next Active Travel Strategy.

A Draft Active Travel Strategy, which will include an action plan, will be produced by the Council once all the evidence and options have been considered. A further period of consultation will then be held to gather thoughts on proposals prior to the final strategy and action plan moving forward to the delivery stage.
