Information
The purpose of this Technical Note is to provide Elected Members with an update on the recent delay in completing special uplifts and new/replacement bin deliveries.
It has been noted that Waste Services is receiving an increase in political and non-political enquiries regarding delays to these two specific services.
Regrettably, there is a backlog in special uplifts and bin deliveries since the start of 2025.
There are several factors that has led to this delay. It should be noted that Waste Services are currently experiencing delays with special collection service and bin deliveries following the festive period where there are four public holidays within a two-week period.
In addition, there were further delays caused by the suspension of all Waste Collection Services and bin deliveries due to the recent storm on 25.01.25.
Recently, the priority has been on the delivery of our frontline statutory services in recent weeks which has led to a backlog of special collections and bin deliveries.
In addition, the separation of special uplift waste streams is causing some delays as classified waste containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs), Scrap Metal, and General Special Collection must be collected and disposed of separately.
I would advise that the separation of the waste streams has led to a backlog and the Service is working towards clearing any outstanding special uplifts under the three categories.
The Service is currently working to increase the resources available to clear the backlog and I apologise for any delay in completing the special uplift. I assure you and residents that the Service is working hard to catch up with the backlog and outstanding uplifts should be collected shortly.
