This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared out with the Council.
The purpose of this Technical Note is to advise Members of ground investigation surveys planned at Whitegates Park which will help inform the next stage of the design development process for the new Lenzie Academy project
The surveys will consist of 28 boreholes, 30 trial pits and 12 gas monitoring points across Whitegates Park, including the area of trees that runs parallel to Initiative Road. The attached site plan shows the proposed location of boreholes/trial pits and gas monitoring areas
Soil samples will be taken from the surveys which will then be sent to a laboratory to understand and confirm the make-up of the ground and will also confirm any ground contaminants. The surveys are typical of those undertaken on any development project, with the results being used to inform the development of a detailed design for the project and help refine the project cost plan
As the surveys proposed to be carried out are intrusive in nature, there will be an impact on Whitegates park and areas will be required to be fenced off for duration of the works. Each borehole/trial pit will be sectioned off by fencing and will be removed upon completion of each dig and reinstatement, therefore leaving the majority of the park open to local residents during the works. All areas will be reinstated upon completion of each borehole/trial pit or gas monitoring dig with existing turf
In order to provide access to the survey area closest to the proposed site access from the roundabout at Initiative Road (adjacent to the Deaf Blind Scotland office), some of the existing foliage and non-tagged trees will require to be removed
The surveys will commence on Monday 17 February and will last for approximately three weeks. The ground gas monitoring equipment will be left in the ground for a period of 12 weeks prior to being removed and ground reinstated
Advance notice of the survey will be communicated via on-site signage, the project website and through the Council’s social media channels.
