Members will be aware that the Prime Minister has intimated his intention to dissolve Parliament in advance of a General Election on 4th July 2024.
Dissolution of Parliament is expected to happen on Thursday 30th May, followed by receipt of the Writ on 31st May and publication of the Notice of Election on Tuesday 4th June. Nominations are then open until 4pm on 7th June.
The Council’s Core Election team has been working towards this election for a number of months. Now that the date is known, planning activity will accelerate.
The main purpose of this Technical Note is to assure Members that planning is well under way and that regular updates will be provided over the coming days and weeks.
A number of key meetings are taking place over the next couple of days. Further updates will be issued by Technical Note, and these will include local arrangements for Candidates and Agents briefings, Postal Vote Opening etc. Details of any consequential impacts on Council business and operations will also be provided.
