This Technical Note will be published on the Council’s website following circulation to Members. Its contents may be disclosed or shared outwith the Council.

  1. The purpose of this Technical Note is to alert Members to a Scottish Government consultation on proposals to introduce proxy voting for Councillors.
  2. The Scottish Government has launched a consultation on whether proxy voting should be introduced for Councillors.  The proposal document is attached as an appendix to this Technical Note.  The response form is available via the following link https://www.gov.scot/publications/consultation-proposal-allow-proxy-voting-councillors/documents/
  3. The closing date for the consultation is 28th November 2024.  A draft Council response will be submitted to the meeting of the Policy & Resources Committee on 21st November 2024.
  4. Given the direct relevance of the consultation to Members, it is appropriate to highlight the existence of the consultation and the response deadline in advance of Policy & Resources, so as to provide Members with an opportunity to respond individually.
