High School Sweethearts celebrate Diamond Wedding Anniversary

High School sweethearts George and Margaret Redpath recently celebrated their Diamond Anniversary and Provost Gillian Renwick paid the couple a visit at their home in Bishopbriggs to congratulate them.

Both Margaret and George attended Dunard Street Primary School in Maryhill, but it wasn’t until they were in their fifth year at North Kelvinside Secondary School that George first asked Margaret out. They went on to marry at Adelaide Place Baptist Church in Glasgow on 11 July 1964 and honeymooned in Austria. The couple welcomed two daughters into their family and apart from seven years in Milton Keynes, the Redpaths have spent their married life living in East Dunbartonshire. Margaret worked as a primary school teacher and George was the manager at Burroughs in Cumbernauld.

Spending time with grandchildren

These days the couple, who are members of Cadder Church, enjoy reading, gardening and keeping fit. They also love spending time with their granddaughter and two grandsons and feel very fortunate to have their family living near them in Bishopbriggs.

Provost Renwick said,

It was an honour to congratulate Margaret and George on their special wedding anniversary and to spend time with them in their beautiful garden

Many more happy years

I wish them many more happy years together.”
