Local couple Maureen and Eric Marr recently celebrated 65 years of wedded bliss and the former English Teacher and College Assistant Principal have shared the secret of their happiness.

“Love, luck, tolerance and looking after each other” is their lesson in love.

Provost Renwick met up with them both recently with special gifts to celebrate their Sapphire Anniversary. She said, “It was wonderful to catch up with Maureen, Eric and their family for tea and cake. What interesting lives the talented couple have had, filled with joy for more than 65 years. Many congratulations to them both!”

Although they met as teenagers in Dundee, their love story was a slow burner. It was their shared passion for Scottish country music and dancing with tickets to a Jimmy Shand show eventually bringing them together. After five years of courting, they were married in Victoria Street Church in July 1959 and set off for a life in Wales.

Now settled in Scotland, the couple have raised two children and have enjoyed travelling the world spending time with their six grandchildren. The family believes that their garden and creative and DIY skills along with a healthy debating streak has made them the perfect team.
